Performance

“Live feeds and audience interaction ensure that no show is ever quite the same. It remains in constant communication with the natural and created environments it invokes. Dr. Stephanie Leigh Batiste

Dance drives the choreographed, multi-media performance that follows a fictional tribe seeking knowledge of the evolutionary future of their species. Caught in a paradox of walking without traveling, the performers’ vision quest enacts an interface with the land through the blind belief in their machines. Delivered by gym treadmills, these machines become functional and metaphorical; referencing american gym culture, nomadic desert dwelling cultures, and the tradition of the australian aboriginal walkabout, functioning as a contemporary ritual to activate memory and a greater understanding of the land.
